Oswald West State Park

You’ll find plenty of challenging and gorgeous hiking trails in Oswald West State Park. The Neahkanie Mountain Loop is one of the most popular in the region. The full loop stretches a little over eight miles, though there is a shorter loop available. The hike leads to the overlook of Nehalem Bay, which offers an outstanding view. You may even be able to spot a whale swimming in the waters below! The Neahkanie Mountain hike is not to be missed.
Another popular trail in the park is the Cape Falcon Trail, which is a little over four miles. It’s a segment of the Oregon Coast Trail and features flowing creeks, small waterfalls, and lush meadows.
You can also hike from Cape Falcon to Short Sands Beach in Oswald State Park. This parcel of shoreline is sheltered by a canopy of trees. Watch the local surfers ride the waves or keep an eye out for any animals that may be swimming in the waters. “Shorty’s” is definitely worth the visit.
